The Savor Way of Working While Resting
My “secret” to getting all my work done while in so much pleasure & resting 80% of the time?
Here’s my exact process ✨
1) Align Priorities
I figure out what *actually* needs to get done, what’s going to move me forward in the direction I desire to go, what my commitments are, and what I’m devoted to…and I cut the rest.
For me right now that looks like: my family, taking care of my clients, showing up for my writing practice, the projects that I’m in process with, our upcoming move, and caring for my body.
2) Commit
I decide what’s going to get done and I set an intention for getting it done in ease & pleasure.
These days it’s mostly just a simple inner acknowledgement of the intention and shifting my perspective away from everything needing to be a hard struggle sandwich.
3) Pleasure First
I dive into the thing that my body is most calling for, whether that’s feeling inspired to work, or needing rest, and I do that thing first. 99% of the time, it wants something pleasurable first. I don’t jump straight into work just because that’s what I think I “should” do.
On days that I’m short on time, that looks like making a favorite morning drink, dancing to a song, or lighting a candle. On days that I have more space, it might mean cooking a leisurely breakfast, reading & cuddling with Cappuccino, taking a walk out in nature, or watching that show I can’t wait catch up on.
4) The Magic ✨
Inevitably, and without fail, once I fully surrender to the rest & pleasure my body is looking for, I start to feel intrinsically inspired again. I WANT to work, because it brings me joy to get my work out in the world.
Suddenly my tasks are getting done without “trying” and I’m still left feeling like I’ve just been resting & relaxing and not really working.
Last Wednesday this looked like:
Taking the opportunity of minimal calls only my calendar to have a full-on rest day after moving nonstop for the past month.
Starting the day with kitty cuddles & 🍄 matcha, while writing in front of the window out to the backyard.
Spending most of the day laying around, flowing between rest & biz tasks.
Making my signature breakfast sandwich, guava mocktails, and lounging by the pool, and having 3 more pieces of content drop in without efforting.
Then in the evening, getting inspired to complete a project that had been on the back-burner for about a month, and joyfully spending 4 hours uploading workshops to my course platform & updating my website, while watching Gilmore Girls.
And by the end of the day, having gotten SO MUCH more done than I even set out to do! Without any of it really feeling like “work.”
That’s it!
That’s my big secret.
And, from my personal experience & coaching many others around doing this, it’s one of those things that’s much easier said than done.
We have so many layers of capitalistic, hustle & grind conditioning drilled into us that we will bump up against!
Or you might be thinking, “well that’s easy for *her* to say, because of…xyz.”
And I so get that.
I used to watch all the coaches & influencers frolicking around the internet touting how little they worked and how much free time they had, thinking it was surely BS.
Or that that kind of life was meant for ‘other people’…but never me.
Until I got tired of being envious of it, and decided to figure it out for myself 🔥
And if you’re wanting to create a life with more time to nap or dip in the pool midday ~
That’s where I’m here to help 💕
